Department of Botany


Botany/Plant Sciences deals with the scientific study of varied aspects of diverse plant taxa. It is of immense importance as plants constitute one of the fundamental components of life on earth. Department of Botany was established in the year 2020 and initially started its operation from a rented accommodation at Khadi Mill Allochi Bagh, Srinagar. At present, it is functioning from temporary accommodation in Government Degree College Bagh-e-Dilawar Khan Shamaswari, Srinagar. The Department shares a common makeshift laboratory with other science departments. Provided with permanent infrastructure, the Department contemplates to establish research laboratories, ethno botanically rich Museum, Botanical Garden with varied endemic and rare plants and Herbal/Medicinal park harboring important and endangered medicinal plants.


To impart quality education to desirous students so as to infuse in them the proficiency to comprehend and practice various aspects of Plant Sciences. To engage students in novel research and academic activities through field expeditions and floristic explorations.


To institute stable foundation and strive for enrichment and furtherance of already stated vision. To produce well educated and resourceful youth for teaching, research, forestry, agriculture, horticulture, wildlife, conservation and sustainable development, ecology and environment and other expressive offerings to the society.
